You may select one of the insurance policies listed below, which have variations in cover, premiums and excesses.
- Cargo Clause A - 4.0% premium, with comprehensive cover of individual items, subject to an excess of 2.5% of the total sum insured (subject to minimum excess of R5 000.00). This policy requires that each individual item in the entire consignment be separately listed with replacement values in the country of destination. Failing to insure as stipulated, the insured shall to the extent of such deficit bear his, or their proportion of any loss.
- Cargo Clause B - 3.5% premium with no excess. This policy provides a total loss cover, meaning that the cargo is covered should the steel shipping container be damaged or lost during the various modes of transport from source to destination, resulting in damage/loss of the content. The policy however does not cover individual items that are lost or damaged in transit. However, in the event that the steel shipping container has been damaged in transit, the policy reverts to a Cargo Clause A policy and hence does cover individual items. An example would be that the container wall is penetrated by the forks of a forklift at the harbour terminal. This policy simply requires a globular insured value to be supplied by the insurer and does not require a list of each individual item in the consignment, as required by Cargo Clause A policy.
- Cargo Clause C - 2.5% premium with no excess. This policy provides a total loss cover only, meaning that the cargo is covered should the steel shipping container be lost during the various modes of transport from source to destination, resulting in the loss of the entire content.
- Please bear in mind that removal companies are the carriers of household and personal effects and are contracted out of liability as per our conditions of contract and industry norms. The liability is held by the insurers, and the extent of the liability varies depending on the type of cover taken. We therefore encourage that sufficient insurance cover is taken out.
